Ooma Office vs. Dialpad: Comparing Business Phone Service

When searching for business phone services, it’s important to select a plan that’s flexible, high quality, sustainable, and affordable. While there are many providers offering business phone service, we wanted to compare two companies that offer digital phone service at prices that are much lower than traditional phone providers.

Both Ooma Office and Dialpad use the internet to transmit your phone calls rather than landlines or cellular voice service. However, this technological framework is where the similarities end.

In the below comparison, we’ll go point by point to consider the phone services offered by both companies.

Service and Quality

Call quality is, of course, a high priority in telephone service. Not only can it be seen as unprofessional to make phone calls that have poor quality, but it can also be frustrating as the caller.

A PC Magazine editor experienced variable call quality when using Dialpad on their laptop, and the editor recommends working with Dialpad’s network specialists to identify problems in local wireless network configurations to troubleshoot call quality issues.

Comparatively, Ooma users experience high-quality audio from the beginning. This is due to Ooma’s prioritization algorithm that helps call quality remain consistently clear, despite fluctuations in network connections. After testing Ooma Office, a PC Magazine editor said, “I was pleased to find that the sound quality was among the best of the VoIP services I’d tested, and everyone I’ve called to test my VoIP services agreed.”

Dialpad has gone through several iterations of name changing and rebranding (Switch, Firespotter Labs, UberConference), and is run by a serial entrepreneur. While Dialpad has been rebranding itself, Ooma has been providing great phone service for over 10 years.

Features

Dialpad and Ooma Office offer different sets of features.

Dialpad service may not be relevant to all customers. For example, Dialpad’s digital-first approach may not be as accommodating to businesses who use traditional phone tools such as faxing because, with Dialpad, only the first 100 pages per month of inbound and outbound faxes are free, and after that it’s $0.10 per page.

When using Dialpad, additional equipment may be needed to accommodate a desk phone since the service only directly supports digital phones with SIP or analog phones with an add-on Obihai Adapter.

Additionally, Dialpad can be difficult to set up, and PC Magazine says that Dialpad installation could be difficult for non-IT users. There’s also the issue of lack of support because Standard subscribers only have access to support via chat, email, and FAQs. Pro users have expanded access with weekday support by phone, but still don’t have weekend phone support. Notably, Dialpad does offer high-tech features that Ooma doesn’t, including strong integrations.

Comparatively, Ooma is easy to use with low rates of customers ever needing tech support. However, if you do need it, Ooma’s customer support is high quality, and phone support is available to all customers seven days a week.

Ooma Office provides you with business phone service that goes beyond the needs of Silicon Valley, and it’s an excellent solution for an array of businesses, whether you’re a retail shop, restaurant, law office, healthcare business, small construction company, hospitality business, real estate firm, or any one of a number of other business types.

Plans and Costs

For each Ooma Office user, phone service costs just $19.95 per month. Included is full use of the Ooma Office business phone app, so you can make and receive work calls no matter where you are.

The business phone service is simple, easy, and straightforward. Plus, the flexibility of not having to sign a contract means that you can easily change your phone service as your business changes.

You can use the desk phone you already have with an analog telephone adapter, or purchase an IP phone.

Dialpad promotes annual contracts with upfront yearly payments. Dialpad Standard is $20 per month with no contract or $15 per month if billed annually. While paying annually does give you a slightly better rate, it locks you into service that may not suit your business needs. Service tiers also include an Enterprise VoIP plan that costs $35 per user per month with an annual contract.

Conclusion

With the cost comparison between Ooma phone systems for small business and Dialpad Standard is just about even for contract-free service, wouldn’t you rather use a phone system that has crystal-clear audio, easy installation, and superior support, all from a reliable business that has consistently been ranked at the top of the industry for the past five years?

Ooma customers and independent reviewers agree that Ooma provides high-quality business phone service that’s reliable, easy to use, and affordable.
