American Express (AmEx) started Small Business Saturday in 2010. According to their 2023 Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, shoppers spent an estimated $17 billion supporting independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday. While a QuickBooks-commissioned survey predicts holiday spending will drop in 2024, the survey also says a whopping 93 percent of consumers plan to shop at small businesses for a total spend this season of more than $76 billion at small businesses.
